So... I made a mistake last week.
I realize that now and if I could go back in time I would definitely take it back. But alas. I can't.
What did I do, you ask?
Well, I happened to verbally point out that we had FINALLY paid off the last of our medical bills for Madison's broken arm.
It wasn't even two full days after the fact, that the medical bills began to pile back up.
Sigh.
First came the tumor.
After a quick visit to the instacare due to the fact that the entire left side of my face suffered the worse pain imaginable, I left with the prognosis that I could have either Bells Palsy or possibly a tumor.
A tumor? Seriously?
Fortunately the "tumor" turned out to simply be a root canal. A painful root canal, but curable nonetheless.
Next up was a fever for this little miss.
102 degree temperature with no other signs or symptoms of an infection.
A few days later she broke out with a rash all over her torso and hives down her arms and legs.
Her diagnosis. Roseola Virus.
And then, we finished up the week with...
a trip to the hospital for this little man.
It all started in the middle of the night. Zack had had a bit of a cold but nothing too serious. But he was having a really hard time sleeping. He kept tossing and turning and crying. And then some more tossing and turning and even more crying. Finally around 4 in the morning we realized he was breathing really fast. We knew you aren't supposed to breath more than 40-60 times a minute so we decided to count and see just how fast he was breathing. 85 times per minute! The poor kid was breathing 85 times per minute! It was also at this point when we realized his chest was doing the suck in motion every time he tried to take a breath which we know can be a sign of RSV or Pneumonia so we finally agreed it was time to take him to the hospital.
When we got to the hospital we learned that his heart rate was over 200 beats per minute. The norm for his age, is 130 b/m. All I can say is I am so grateful we took him in when we did!
In the end we concluded that Mr Zachary has Asthma, just like his sister. He has always been a fast breather, which I always thought was odd but not serious. But he also has terrible eczema, which usually goes hand in hand with asthma. Really I should have known. But I didn't. Even the doctors were surprised he got hit so hard, so young.
As of right now we are just using the rescue inhaler as needed, which so far has only been a handful of times.
The doctors were going to keep Zack in the hospital over night but ended up letting us leave at about 11:30. 19 hours after being admitted. Let's just say both Karl and I were grateful we got to go home and sleep in our own beds that night. The idea of sleeping like this all night was anything but desirable... I mean I love my husband, but I also like my space when I sleep. :)
The last part of the saga (or at least to date) came when my knee buckled while I was walking down our front steps and I fell. I couldn't put any pressure on my leg at all, which made it extra hard to play the Mommy role. The doctor gave me a knee immobilizer brace which helped immensely. My leg still isn't back to normal but at least I can function now.
In the end, I have learned my lesson.
Do not ever vocalize how excited you are to finally have no more medical debt... because if you do, sure enough you will be blessed with more.
