Making a list...

Daddy had a birthday this month but since we had celebrated his birthday early with both mine and Karl's family, we didn't have a lot planned for his actual birthday.

We had a big ice storm on his actual birthday (they said Utah hadn't had a freezing rain like that in almost 30 years) so our plans of heading out to celebrate that night were cancelled.

The girls had been making a list of things we needed to get done before Daddy got home that day that I thought was just too cute not to share.
(We don't need to talk about how none of the things on the list ended up getting done before he got home from work though...)

In case you hadn't figured out what the list said yet, I will interpret.

Ken v has: Clean the house
Mac u krd fo mi dad: Make a card for my dad
Ogiz: Organize
Mak budfl Papr: Make beautiful paper

I guess Maddie get's her sense of spelling from her mommy. :)

We finally did get to go out for a special dinner date today, just the two of us, to Rodizio Grill. A rare treat indeed. Gotta love free birthday meals!
(No, this picture was not actually taken of us today but since we didn't actually take one, this is what you get)

Uncle! Uncle!

So I know I'm not alone on this one...
But I'm going to say it anyway.
I AM SO SICK OF BEING SICK!
Even more importantly, I am so sick of my kids being sick!
Seriously, it should not be possible for little ones to get so sick. :(
Honestly, we probably haven't even had it as bad as a lot of others...
But I hate it anyway.

One thing I was told when Aubrey was born, was that she would have a weakened immune system and would probably get sick a lot easier than most. Although she does catch a sickness at the drop of a hat, she has actually been really lucky on not usually getting hit very hard. For the first year or so of her life, she never even had more than a cold. Not a single ear infection, (Maddie had to have tubes put in her ears by the time she was about 1) croup, (also another illness Maddie was famous for getting) or major illness. Until this summer when we started having issues with her breathing, she has always been relatively healthy. I'm not saying we haven't spent our share of days at the doctors office with her, but that's another story for another day.
Oh those were the days...

Once we discovered that Aubrey had asthma, it seemed as though everything started hitting her harder. She gets a little cold and suddenly she can hardly breath.

Last weekend Aubrey caught a little stomach bug. She started throwing up early Sunday morning and by noon we could hardly control her breathing issues with her rescue inhaler. We were having to give her the medicine every hour to 2 hours and she still couldn't seem to breath. So we finally decided to take her to the hospital.

When we got to the hospital they quickly discovered that she was dehydrated and started her up on an IV and some meds. It was almost instantly that the breathing issues stopped. Thank goodness!
There is nothing scarier than watching your child struggle for air.
She seemed a lot better the next day, other than the being ornery and super tired. And then yesterday, the dirty diapers began.
I couldn't get her to eat and I couldn't get her to drink anything. I was afraid we were headed right back in the direction of the hospital when she finally started to act a little better.

I woke up this morning with high hopes of having a better day.
And then Brooklyn woke up...
coughing...
and coughing...
and throwing up because she was coughing...
and then some more coughing...
She didn't stop coughing (seriously) for more than a few minutes at a time until at least 1 in the afternoon.
The poor girl was miserable.
Even when she fell asleep, the coughing continued.
After waking up she actually seemed worse than before. That's when I realized she had a fever. I gave her some medicine and she started to feel a little bit better.

And then she decided she wanted a cheese burger for dinner. :)
So we decided to take a picture of her saddest face and send it to daddy so he would want to bring her a hamburger for dinner.
And then she wanted to send him a smiling picture...
Really, I just want us all to feel better. Is that really too much to ask?

Snow day!!!

I remember when I was a kid, every time it would snow I would pray that we would get enough snow to cancel school.
I mean really, who doesn't love a snow day?
Although I didn't enjoy the 6 AM wake up call from the school district informing us that all Davis schools were officially closed today, I admit the excitement that filled my body made me feel like I was 10 again. I may or may not have been able to go back to sleep because I was so excited. I don't think Maddie thought it was quite as exciting as I did. She kept telling me she really wanted to go to school (she so can't be my kid!). Once she realized what a "snow day" entails, she was a little more excited.
Daddy was even able to call it a snow day and stay home from work as well. We figured since it took him over 2 hours to get home from work last night and the roads were still pretty terrible, he was pretty justified in staying home.

(Aubrey didn't actually play in the snow but she did get to try on this awesomely huge snow suite)

So what did we do today?
Well, we did attempt to head in to town to pick up a few things at the store. Probably not the best idea but we survived. :) Then we stopped and got lunch at this little sandwich shop called Vito's. Yum! Vito used to sell sandwiches out of a truck at the park and just recently opened a shop in Bountiful. The fun thing about his place is that you order your food, he tells you how much your total is and then you just drop your money in a bucket. Talk about trustworthy! Highly recommend paying him a visit sometime if you are in the area.

After our excursion in to town (there may or may not have been a mishap in the snow where one sad little girl lost both of her boots while walking through the foot of snow...) we met up with our friend Aude and her teenage daughters. Our girls had fun playing with the older girls and eating lots of yummy food (Aude is from France and makes lots of wonderful food we don't usually get to eat). After the food, came the sledding. We just went out to the dirt and gravel mounds on the lot behind their house but the hills were perfect for our girls (sadly, this was the first time we have EVER taken our girls sledding). Maddie and Brooklyn had a great time sledding, while Aubrey stayed back with Aude's daughters. Brooklyn only lasted a few minutes before her hands turned to ice cubes but Maddie did not want to stop!

After Brooklyn's hands froze, she and I walked back to the house while Maddie and Aude stayed to go a few more times.
I looked out the window just in time to see Maddie and Aude at the top of the big dirt mound when all of a sudden they took off backwards down the hill, right towards that trailer you see behind the hill.
Luckily they stopped before they hit the trailer.
I was sure I was going to open the door and hear screaming and crying... but instead heard lots of laughing and a "Let's do that again!"
After warming up with some hot cocoa, we finally made our way back home.
But I think it's safe to say the next time I tell Maddie it's a snow day and school has been cancelled, she is going to be a bit more excited.
Thanks Aude, Camille and Celine for making our day so fun!

The excitement is overwhelming!

For the average toddler, this may not seem like that big of a deal...
but for this little lady,
This is something we have been working towards
for a VERY long time.
I was walking down the hall and happened to look in at Aubrey just in the nick of time to see her doing this...

I have to admit I might have screamed a little.
And then she fell...
But I think she got the idea that I was pretty excited for her...
because she wouldn't stop trying for at least the next 15 minutes.
I love that you can see the excitement and pride in her face.

I swear she has been getting in to this position while she is playing for just about as long as I can remember and you can always tell she is 'thinking' about standing up but would never actually try standing.
But once this girl finally figures out that she can actually do something, she doesn't let anything stop her!
Yay Aubrey!!!

Snow Day...

It's moments like these that make me grateful we slaved away for months on end to get our yard in before fall hit this year...

I so wish this picture wasn't blurry! I LOVE the smiles on their faces!
