The Big ONE-Oh and the family reunion

We had a big weekend this past week. We got to celebrate Brooklyn's FIRST birthday and go to Logan for one of our favorite October activities... The Pumpkin Walk. Since our weekend was so full of activities we didn't get to do all of the usual first birthday activities such as the famous demolishing of the birthday cake but no worries, she gets another birthday party this weekend where she can have all of her cake glory.  Anyway, back to our weekend adventures.

Thursday Night: Karl and I loaded our girls in the car at 9:30 to drive to Salt lake. We couldn't leave until Karl had finished his online class that doesn't end until then so it made for a late night for the adults in our family. We finally arrived at my parents house at about 12:30.

Friday Morning: Karl had to wake up and be to an interview early in the morning (the second for the week, the first for that day). He went to his interview then we once again loaded our girls in the car to rush off to Logan for the second interview of the day. Karl made it to his interview on time then ended up having to wait about an hour for the guy he was supposed to meet with to get back from lunch (it had been a long day and the man didn't realize what time it was so when he was asked to go to lunch at 1:45 he forgot that he had an interview in 15 minutes with Karl). Hopefully they will be impressed that he actually waited around that long for them to return...

Friday Night: We had a mini family reunion planned with Karl's mom's brother and his children. We were all going to go to the Pumpkin Walk and then spend the rest of the evening catching up with each other. It didn't turn out quite as expected either but we had a wonderful time anyway. Uncle Keith and his wife Michelle didn't end up making it past Provo due to some major traffic and our cousin Dan's wife had to stay at home with their 2 youngest children because they were sick.
Maddie and Ivy have sure missed seeing each other all the time. They had a lot of fun being silly together.

We got to ride the bus to the Pumpkin Walk. All the little girls LOVED it. They sang The Wheels On The Bus song the whole ride there and by then end they had the whole bus singing with them. It was pretty exciting actually. :)

Saturday Morning: Happy Birthday Brooklyn!!! We started the day off with a delicious birthday breakfast for little Brooklyn. After eating, she got to open all of her presents from the family. She was pretty funny. She really had no clue what was going on and showed absolutely no emotion whatsoever. We know she liked all of her presents because she wouldn't take her hands off of them but you wouldn't know it from her face... Silly Brooklyn.

We got to spend the rest of the weekend at Lacey and Steve's house where Maddie and Ivy got to spend a lot of time having fun. We finally made it home late Sunday night. It was a great weekend but we were all grateful to be back in our own beds last night.

Getting Halloween Ready...

I finally got around to working on Maddie's Halloween costume. It has been quite the ordeal. We have gone from Princess to scary witch to Princess to scary witch with many other ideas mixed in between. We finally decided on Dorthy from the Wizard of Oz because Madison loves the movie so much and already plays pretend witch and Dorthy all the time. When Aunt Katie was here to visit, she bought Maddie her cute red shoes and so all that was left was to make the dress.

So today, I got out my sewing machine and started cutting up my fabric (I didn't have a pattern, just decided to go at it). I had the dress complete then realized I didn't like how the top came out. So I cut off the top and started again. This is the first attempt dress.

Brooklyn also had some fun trying out someone elses Halloween costume.
Are you curious about what it is???
Well, you will just have to wait to find out.
But trust me it's worth the wait.

And just for documentation sake. Here's Brooklyn in all of her curious glory.

This is how we found Brooklyn the other day, after she went dumpster diving... If you don't believe me that this girl is busy, come spend a few hours at my house then there will be no doubt in your mind.

Auntie Kate comes to visit

We got to spend the last few days with one of our favorite Katie's. We did lots of shopping, talking and playing together. It was a great little visit. Thanks Katie for coming to visit.
(and thanks for letting me steal all of your pictures)

Because she likes to do this...

 And this...
 And this...

And then this again...

...Karl's mom thought that something like this would be a great gift idea for Brooklyn for her birthday. She started looking yesterday on KSL. This morning she was going to drive to Ogden so that she could buy a slide from someone down there when meanwhile, Karl who was at work, almost got ran over by this thing. It was only $10. I think it was meant to be.
The girls love it.
Thanks Nana for the early birthday present!
By the way... every one of those top pictures of Brooklyn was taken in about a ten minute period. For those of you who don't believe me, here's a few more pictures to prove that this girl is mischievous.

Art- it's all in how you look at it

Tonight Maddie was drawing with chalk on the front porch. Call me biased, but I was actually quite impressed. Yes some of these are a bit of a stretch but I could actually see everything Madison was saying she was drawing.

I actually thought this looked like a whale and then she told me it was a shark... she wasn't too far off.

This one is a little bit more of a stretch. I think it looks like yogi bear.

Haha, and this one just makes me laugh. She looks like a cartoon character.
Look hard, it might be in there somewhere???

With Madison showing off her new artistry skills, Brooklyn decided she couldn't be left out. So she showed us her new talent of...
Standing ON the table... little stinker.
Look how beautiful the sky was tonight. I know a lot of it is due to all the fires that are still going but it was beautiful.
